When: Saturday, April 10

Time: 9 am – 11 am

How many projects are hidden in your closet of things to be finished? Hmm?

How many times have I heard: “Oh, I’ve finished several tops but I just hate putting things together!” or “I don’t know how to pick up those button band stitches and join the shoulders!”

Well then, isn’t it time you came in to learn some of the secrets of “piecing stuff together?” And isn’t it always easier and more fun to work on hateful things in a group with other people who have to work on hateful things?

This workshop will teach you among other things how to

·        Work a smooth bind off on projects knitted in the round

·        Pick up stitches at the different edges of your garment

·        Create a nice secure start to pick up stitches

·        Work a circular needle pick up for bands and trims

·        Buttonholes and button spacing

If you have questions about how things work, write them down and bring them to be answered at the end of class!

Supplies to bring: All homework, extra DPNs, different sized crochet hooks, different light-colored worsted weight yarn, a shank button, a piece of waxed dental floss about 4” long, normal knitting supplies.

Homework

  1. With worsted weight yarn and appropriate sized dpns, cast on 20 sts. Join, being careful not to twist. Work in 1 x 1 rib in the round for about 2", begin to bind off until you have 4 or 5 sts left on your needle. Leave these stitches on the needle to be completed in class.
  2. With worsted weight yarn and appropriate sized needles cast on 10 sts. Work in any stitch pattern for about 2". Leave stitches on needle to be completed in class.
  3. With worsted weight yarn and appropriate sized needles make a 4" x 4" swatch in stockinette, ending with a wrong side row = ready to work a knit row. Do not bind off, leave stitches on a stitch holder. Block swatch a little to prevent curled edges.

General Info

Regardless of indicated skill levels, all students should at least be comfortable with the knit stitch. If you are not clear about what skills are needed for a class please ask us.
It is strongly suggested to purchase any materials needed prior to the first session of each class. Time is precious and classes will begin on time.
Please make sure you bring all your basic knitting supplies as well as any special materials and homework to each class. While we are all more than happy to share, sometimes there is not enough to go around.
Please try to attend all dates indicated for a workshop. If there is a conflict in scheduling, we will be more than happy to set up a day and time for you to come in and make up the session you missed.

Above all let's have fun knitting!
